It is therefore becoming increasingly more important for companies not only to control their electricity costs but also to optimise consumption and self-generation in order to maximise their energy potential \u2013 for example through the use of a photovoltaic system, and in some cases, in combination with a battery storage system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Commercial and industrial battery storage systems, with capacities ranging from 30\u202fkWh to several MWh, enable companies to increase the self-consumption of on-site renewable electricity generation and thus reduce energy costs. By reducing power peaks, they allow for improved peak load management and thereby significantly reduce a company\u2019s electricity bill. To fully leverage your battery\u2019s capacity and increase your profits it is equally essential to install an energy management system (EMS).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The following measure outlines in which scenario the installation of a battery storage system is recommended and beneficial \u2013 and how its implementation can be planned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"type-numerotation\"><span class=\"type-numerotation-span visually-hidden\"><\/span>Defining the needs<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1.1. Overview of potential applications for battery storage in commercial and industrial settings<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A commercial or industrial battery storage system \u2013 especially when combined with a photovoltaic installation \u2013 can provide various operational advantages. However, these opportunities are currently not available in Luxembourg, as they depend on the further development of the market and the regulatory framework, which is still being established.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-light-green-background-color has-background\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Optimise the use of your battery with an energy management system<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>EMS (Energy Management System):<\/strong> To activate and optimise certain applications, battery storage systems must be equipped with a compatible energy management system (EMS). This device monitors, controls, and optimises the energy flow within a circuit located behind the grid connection point. This circuit includes the battery, the inverter and its photovoltaic system, charging stations for electric vehicles, and possibly a heat pump. We strongly recommend hiring an engineering firm to identify possible applications specific to your case and to assess the feasibility and profitability of the project.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"type-numerotation\"><span class=\"type-numerotation-span visually-hidden\"><\/span>Subsidy application<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Government subsides<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-light-green-background-color has-background\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Please note: any application for government or non-government subsidies must comply with the \u201cincentive effect\u201d, subject to compliance with the subsidy conditions.<\/strong><br>In order to respect the \u201cincentive effect\u201d, no binding commitment (signing a quotation; paying a deposit) may be made BEFORE having received the agreement in principle from the State or the electricity and natural gas supplier following an application for subsidy.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the absence of a dedicated state subsidy for the installation of a storage battery, there are two types of subsidies available for storage batteries: those in combination with the installation of a photovoltaic system, and tax incentives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/guichet.public.lu\/en\/citoyens\/aides\/logement-construction\/klimabonus-2026\/aide-installations-techniques.html\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/guichet.public.lu\/en\/citoyens\/aides\/logement-construction\/klimabonus-2026\/aide-installations-techniques.html\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Klimabonus<\/a><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Klimabonus state subsidy scheme also supports the installation of a storage battery, but only when it is installed together with a photovoltaic system or added to an existing system at a later date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the installation of an additional battery, a period of at least five years must have elapsed since the previous battery was brought into service. The subsidy rate for batteries is calculated based on the battery\u2019s capacity, using the following formula:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Q<sub>Bat<\/sub> * (500 &#8211; (500\/18) * Q<sub>Bat<\/sub>) \u20ac<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Q<sub>Bat<\/sub>: usable capacity of the storage system in question, expressed in kilowatt hours (kWh) and rounded to two decimal places.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This formula applies to batteries with a capacity between 2 and 9 kWh. This subsidy is granted to encourage companies to produce their own energy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>There is currently no open call for tenders under the investment aid the granting of investment aid to SMEs and large companies established in Luxembourg, with an establishment authorisation, and carrying out projects that contribute to environmental or climate 7<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Regardless of their size, companies can receive <strong>aid upon request<\/strong> if they meet the conditions described in Article 8 of this law, <strong>provided that the aid exceeds \u20ac50,000 for SMEs or \u20ac100,000 for large companies<\/strong>.<br>They may also participate in regular calls for projects, which will be announced below when they become available.
