Unfortunately, information on the energy consumption of the technological equipment used is not necessarily available prior to installation. IT infrastructures require a lot of energy and represent high costs, which are generally accepted as they are. However, there is great potential for savings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With a view to optimising the server infrastructure, the following steps indicate a recommended analysis approach.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"type-numerotation\"><span class=\"type-numerotation-span visually-hidden\"><\/span>Definition of server infrastructure requirements<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Analysis of server infrastructure energy consumption<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Analysis of the energy consumption of the server infrastructure, e.g. using electricity meters<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Consider the age of technical components consuming electricity<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Availability of an overview of the technical status of the server infrastructure<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Assessment of whether the air conditioning in the server room is correctly adjusted<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Analysis of whether the IT contract partner is optimising the IT system from an energy efficiency perspective<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Evaluation of outsourcing server operations as a potential alternative solution<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Verification of whether the relevant employees are properly trained<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-light-green-background-color has-background\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-green-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-0f357741f6306de1b8e94ec134e54a40\"><strong><strong>Further information<\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong>Contacting a company specialising in IT engineering<\/strong><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An in-depth analysis by a company in the sector in question will create a solid basis for any adjustments that may need to be made.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"type-numerotation\"><span class=\"type-numerotation-span visually-hidden\"><\/span> Identification of solutions adapted to the server infrastructure situation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong>Adjusting the temperature to create the ideal environment in your server room<\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Ideal balance between the energy consumption of the air-conditioning in the server rooms and the actual requirements of the existing IT equipment. In principle, information on temperature and humidity is given in the technical data sheets.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Maximum temperatures of up to 32&nbsp;\u00b0C are possible (ASHRAE standard <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ashrae.org\/file%20library\/technical%20resources\/bookstore\/ashrae_tc0909_power_white_paper_22_june_2016_revised.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><u>class A1<\/u><\/a> recommendation).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong>Outsourcing server operation to a professional supplier (data centre)<\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are a number of possible solutions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Operation of servers and racks in external data centres<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Identification of tasks for a service provider in this field<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are other benefits to be considered in relation to outsourcing solutions (e.g. data security, additional services, reduced maintenance costs).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-light-green-background-color has-background\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-green-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-5b6373be6daf025517bc950629f2b035\"><strong>Further information<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Use the to <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dcenergy.ch\/actions\/?lang=fr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><u><strong>simulate energy saving measures<\/strong><\/u><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In an existing infrastructure, the simulator helps to identify different electricity-saving measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Involve the IT supplier or contractual partner in the measures mentioned to reduce electricity consumption.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Investing in more energy-efficient infrastructure<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"type-numerotation\"><span class=\"type-numerotation-span visually-hidden\"><\/span>Subsidy application<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Government subsidies<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-light-green-background-color has-background\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<p class=\"has-green-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-7939e4e94c0d6b02c6cb53cc6b469ca8 wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Attention: incentive effect to be complied with when applying for subsidies (state or otherwise) and subject to <\/strong><strong>compliance with <\/strong><strong>the eligibility conditions.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In order to respect the &#8220;incentive effect&#8221;, no binding commitment (signing a quotation;
