Idea

Decarbonising business travel through full fleet electrification

Bamolux has decided to progressively electrify its car and van fleet in order to reduce emissions linked to business travel and improve the overall efficiency of its operations.

Concept

Needs analysis and sizing of the electric fleet

Electrification began as early as 2016 with the introduction of a first electric vehicle.

Several parameters were analysed to ensure appropriate sizing aligned with actual needs:

  • number of required charging points,
  • types of vehicles (cars and vans),
  • daily routes and distances travelled,
  • user profiles (sales, technical staff, management),
  • potential use for external clients.

An internal support process was also implemented. Employees were able to test the vehicles to reduce reluctance and encourage buy-in. This process also included an assessment of employees’ charging needs, which led to the installation of home charging points for some of them, financed by the company.

In parallel, the company gathered early information on available subsidies for:

  • new zero-emission vehicles,
  • on-site charging infrastructure.

Implementation

Deployment of the electric fleet and charging infrastructure

The transition to electric mobility required organisational adjustments. Route planning was revised to integrate charging times and optimise vehicle usage.

Today, the fleet includes:

  • 20 vehicles for commercial and operational use,
  • 7 charging points installed on-site,
  • several charging points installed at employees’ homes.

Results

Increased operational efficiency and reduced CO₂ emissions

The electrification of the fleet has improved vehicle efficiency while significantly reducing its carbon footprint.

Today, electric vehicles already represent a substantial share of the company’s business travel. Each year, Bamolux covers nearly 464,000 kilometres electrically, representing almost half of all journeys.
